about

"Those who follow a musical dissemination channel like ours will know Riccardo Spaggiari mainly as a percussionist of Ataraxia, but he has also played in the indie / post-rock instrumental quartet Amp Rive, together with, among others, the guitarist Gualtiero Venturelli, who also supports him. in the new adventure A Distant Shore together with singer Giovanna Dazzi. Three artists with proven experience (also in bands such as Lampo, John De Farga, Cosmos In Collision and Mojo Workin 'Band) who bring together strength and skills in a new project called electronic dream-gaze, sponsored by the American Somewherecold Records, which publishes the debut EP both in digital and in only 25 copies of the very limited CD version in a hardcover envelope. And it is a perfectly fitting definition, since the sound of the Italian trio is the ideal meeting ground between dream-pop and shoegaze, skilfully channeled not only by Gualtiero's dreamy guitar and Giovanna's beautiful voice, but also by synths and electronics by Riccardo, here far from his typical role as drummer / percussionist. "Drownbrown" immediately opens ethereal and dreamy, almost recalling the soft cover image, with Dazzi cradling us with her undisputed vocal skills up to a more intense refrain and full of shoegaze vibrations, the same ones that we find in a more marked measure between the incisive rhythms and the captivating structures of that "Better Day" capable of a nice crescendo of intensity. A nice start for an even better continuation: the more (dream) pop side of the trio's writing is felt as much in the elegant groove of the persuasive and nocturnal "Safe Place", in which voice and keyboards give their best, as between the 80s folds and reminiscent of certain atmospheres of the most dreamy Cure of the airy "Girls". Obviously we will wait for A Distant Shore on the most exhaustive distance of a complete album, but despite the only four tracks and the relative brevity of the EP in question, we can confidently assert that if the premises are these, we can legitimately expect good things."
